Operating on either natural gas or liquid propane (LP) fuel, it is positioned outdoors similar to a central air conditioning unit. This system seamlessly supplies power directly to your home’s electrical network, ensuring backup support for either the entire household or essential appliances and systems.

What is the process to install a permanent home generator?

Step 1

Sparky Mark technicians will schedule an on-site meeting to determine the electrical load and present 1-3 models of generators, if available

Step 2

If the homeowner decides to proceed, they will need to contact their local utilities and/ or gas fitter to schedule a consultation (we can help guide you to who you need to contact!)

Step 3

Our electricians will determine any installation needs and permit requirements

Step 4

Once the permits are obtained the permanent generator can be installed!

What is a standby generator?

A home standby generator functions as a backup electrical system, activating automatically to supply power during outages, regardless of whether you are at home or away. 

What are the options to power the generator?

  • Natural Gas Hookup: only available where natural gas service is already present
  • Liquid Propane: would be housed in an above ground tank on the property

Can the permanent home generator fail?

Unfortunately, yes, but is highly unlikely if maintained and serviced. IF issues were to arise it would often be from the home battery that is used to start the generator, as batteries can deteriorate over time, the master control being in the wrong position or the moving parts seizing because they have remained in one position for so long (in other words – there has not been a power outage in a long time!) 

Does the permanent generator require maintenance?

Conducting actual outage tests, which activate the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), can help identify any potential issues. Regular lubrication of bearing points and thorough inspection for electrical contact erosion are crucial for maintaining optimal equipment health.
